Peer Support Lead students recently gathered for a dedicated training session focused on understanding and managing anxiety and how to support  younger students. The workshop provided practical strategies to help PSLs identify early signs of distress and guide children toward healthy coping mechanisms.

A key focus of the session was understanding the distinction between everyday worry and anxiety. While worry is typically temporary and tied to a specific situation like an exam, anxiety is persistent and can linger long after a stressor passes. They also discussed how to spot the signs such as stomachaches, withdrawal, restlessness, or sudden emotional shifts.

The group discussed ways to guide children in building a personal wellbeing toolkit. This approach suggests simple  exercises for stress relief, using creative outlets to express and release worries, and the confidence to reach out for help.

The session concluded with group work where the PSLs worked through scenarios suggesting possible support steps and strategies. We look forward to seeing the group again for their next training session about peer mentoring in the workplace and value the work they do back in their own schools.
