A Philosothon is a competition between students where the aim is not to ‘win’ an argument but to work with their peers to critically engage with a stimulus. The aim is to facilitate students in analysing arguments and in asking probing questions, which try to clarify the ideas expressed within the group. Students do not need to have studied philosophy to take part, they only need to be open to discussing an unseen text with their peers.
The event will run between 15:40 and 18:00 with no cost for participating schools and with prizes for individual winners and a trophy for the overall winning school. Each team would be comprised of 10 students, two from each year from year 9 upwards. Please talk to your Philosophy teacher to join in.
