Members of Eco Clubs from our schools are invited to attend this afternoon event.
The aims of ICN’s conferences are to bring the critical ‘real world’ climate debate to life, enhance critical thinking for young participants and inspire student-led action. Teams of students from participating schools, will represent up to 16 nations as at COP28 in Dubai (30 Nov – 12 Dec 2023) before the conference turns to a local climate action focus.
Part 1 – Global Negotiations The Mock COP28 format is designed to engage with the themes of the UN Climate Conference of the Parties. Teams of students work together in advance to create a brief (1minute!) opening statement. They then present and debate progress towards pledged carbon reduction targets made in the Paris Agreement and try to agree more ambitious climate action. Methodologies ensure that all participants have the opportunity to contribute, and that the conference progresses from team planning and presentations, to joint collaborations and decision-making.
Part 2 – Climate Action The focus in the second part of the conference typically then turns to our own climate action and how students and schools can make a difference in support of Net Zero. This will be
used as an opportunity for:
One Planet Abingdon to show their work on positive action and answer questions
We would like to welcome up to 8 students from your Eco group if you have one or students who are passionate about the climate debate, plus a member of staff. This is open to all year groups.
