We are fortunate to be able to welcome Dr Mark Elliott, Director of Undergraduate Studies, School of Chemistry, Cardiff University, who will talk about “A modern look at the foundations of organic chemistry” on 2 March in the Science Lecture Theatre at 5pm. This should be an excellent talk where he challenges the some of the received view of organic chemistry. He recently published computational evidence that alkyl-groups are inductively withdrawing, and he has since been concerned with the inductive effect in general.
