Sixth form students in partner schools are invited to a lecture by  Dr John Cottingham (the leading, living world expert on Rene Descartes, the father of modern philosophy) delivering a lecture on Descartes. This will be held in the CMR.  Dr Cottingham has spoken here a few times, and given how prominently Descartes features on A-level specifications, there is no better person to deliver a session on him. Dr Cottingham is famous for a number of reasons, but notably introducing the term ‘trialism’, as a development of Cartasian dualism. Even if Descartes doesn’t feature overtly on an A-level’s programme of study, given how important Descartes is in the history of modern thought, this lecture comes highly recommended either way.
