What an incredible day we had yesterday at Fitzharrys School. We were thrilled to welcome over 90 fantastic Sixth Form students from schools across our community for the first Peer Support Lead (PSL) training session for this cohort. It was truly inspiring to see so many young leaders come together, ready to make a real difference in their schools.
The atmosphere was buzzing with energy as students dived into a comprehensive program designed to equip them with essential skills. They learned the art of empathetic listening, understanding how to truly connect with and comprehend their peers’ perspectives. We also introduced the concept of “creative loitering” – a friendly and subtle way to be present and available for those who might need a chat.
A key focus of the day was mastering the techniques for building rapport and fostering genuine connections. Students gained valuable insights into the Peer Support Lead role, understanding their responsibilities and the powerful positive impact they can have. And, of course, a critical element of the training was comprehensive guidance on safeguarding, ensuring our PSLs are fully equipped to handle any concerns appropriately and safely.
Beyond the formal training, a huge highlight was the opportunity for students from different schools to meet and interact. Through collaborative activities, they got to know each other, shared ideas, and started building a strong network of support that extends beyond their individual school gates. This cross-school collaboration is truly exciting and promises to strengthen our entire community.
We’re so proud of these dedicated Sixth Formers! They are now ready to step into their roles as Peer Support Leads, bringing a new level of understanding and support to their school environments. This initiative is a testament to the power of student-led support and the positive impact it can have on wellbeing and community spirit.
