DESCRIPTION:We are fortunate to be able to welcome Dr Mark Elliott\, Director of Undergraduate Studies\, School of Chemistry\, Cardiff University\, who will talk about “A modern look at the foundations of organic chemistry” on 2 March in the Science Lecture Theatre at 5pm. This should be an excellent talk where he challenges the some of the received view of organic chemistry. He recently published computational evidence that alkyl-groups are inductively withdrawing\, and he has since been concerned with the inductive effect in general.\n\nPlease do let me know if you and your pupils would like to attend. The day is held at Abingdon school and led by external facilitators\, read  more here.   \nPlease see the details below: \nDate: Thursday 16th October\, 9 – 3.30pm \nLocation: Abingdon School \nY10/11 Linguists to be accompanied by a member of staff \nThis event will be an opportunity for students studying GCSE French\, German or Spanish to work together to complete several challenges. \nWe are inviting up to 12 students from each school to attend the day and we would welcome language students in Y10 or 11  who are also interested in business and international marketing and selling. \nThe day will include: \n\n\nA marketing and selling challenge \n\n\nA keynote talk \n\n\nLunch \n\n\nA presentation by students using their target language \n\n\nAn opportunity to talk to international business people \n\n\nWe hope this event will be of interest to you and your students\, Teachers\, please register via this form  by September 25th.
